Your First Source for Building in New Mexico
Builder’s FirstSource of Albuquerque and Santa Fe started in 1972 with a family venture involving the Chiado and Wickens families. Then called Lumber, Inc. and located in Albuquerque, we started with just 15 employees. In 1990, less than 20 years later, we opened our second lumberyard in Santa Fe.
Today we proudly belong to the Builder’s FirstSourcefamily; our two original locations are now part of a national network that is 42 states strong and growing. We employ more than 125 experienced building professionals—some of them fourth-generation family members—who maintain our hometown feel and Southwestern vibe.
Over the years, our Builder’s FirstSource locations have expanded. We’ve added inventory, partnered with the best suppliers and brand manufacturers, and developed in-house services to become the supplier of choice in New Mexico for residential building supplies and engineered building components.
In Albuquerque, we’ve invested in the future. Our initial lumberyard has developed into a full-service residential and commercial building complex complete with our own millwork facilities, as well as a manufacturing plant that engineers and builds floor and roof trusses and wall panels. With full-service lumberyards at each location, we strive to be your one-stop destination for all of your construction supplies, as well as all of your prefabricated building components.
With premium dimensional lumber and engineered wood products from names such as Weyerhaeuser and Boise Cascade, you’ll find exactly what you need for framing and sheathing by the board, sheet, or stack.
Visit our window and door displays to see the latest in fenestration technology and to experience firsthand our full selections of doors and millwork. You’ll find exterior doors and entryways, interior doors, prehung doors, and door slabs by makers such as JELD-WEN, Therma-Tru, Woodgrain, Rogue Valley Door, TruStile, Andersen, and MI. Choose from top hardware brands EZSET, Kwikset, Schlage, and Emtek. Visit us to discover the perfect mouldings, casements, and millwork from notable industry standards such as Metrie. For the ultimate luxury, you’ll find LaCantina folding and sliding doors exclusively at our New Mexico locations. The doors feature walls of glass that dissolve the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.
For windows, you can count on many of the same makers—Andersen, JELD-WEN, and MI—for a coordinated look and feel throughout the homes you build. Add interest with skylights or roof windows thanks to Velux or Solar Industries. Window covering options from A Better Blind add privacy and style. We even have everything you need for window exteriors: from Vycor and MFM water barrier self-adhesive window wraps, tapes, and flashings to stylish exterior window shutters by Fypon to define every look.
When it comes to exterior cladding in New Mexico, stucco is king. While we source the latest in composite sidings—such as James Hardie and LP SmartSide—for their classic wood grain look and rugged durability, we also maintain partnerships with the makers of traditional Southwestern architecture and style—stucco and masonry veneer products in stone, brick, and tile—such as El Rey Stucco, BASF, Finestone, LaHabra, and Western Blended Products. And if you can’t find the perfect shade or hue for new construction or stucco repair, we even offer custom tinting at our Albuquerque and Santa Fe locations.
In the Southwest, no home is complete without a deck. We carry all of the decking and railing options homeowners are looking for: We have composite decking from TimberTech, AZEK, Trex, and Fiberon, as well as their matching railings; we also carry distinctly different manufacturers, such as Fortress Railing or Fairway. You can count on us having everything you need, from treated lumber for the deck supports to the deck lighting.
We’ve worked for decades to make our Albuquerque and Santa Fe locations one-stop building supply destinations, each a place that you’ll want to visit, a place where you know you can trust what our building professionals tell you. Visit our Albuquerque complex or our full-service lumberyard in Santa Fe with your latest plan or blueprint, and let us add you to our Builder’s FirstSource building family with a fair quote and delivery dates you can punch a clock on. New Mexico is a great place to build. We’re here to help every step of the way.
The Builders FirstSource Story
Builders FirstSource is driven by the desire to provide professional class building materials and services to homebuilders and remodelers across the country.
In the 1990's, the building materials industry changed significantly. Homebuilders grew by acquisition, creating large national competitors. Building materials manufacturers also consolidated. It was inevitable that the building material supply industry, the companies between the consolidating manufacturers and consolidating homebuilders, must consolidate as well. Builders FirstSource was born from this industry evolution.
In March 1998, the Company's management team, with the backing of JLL Partners, a private investment firm with significant committed capital, made its first acquisition. Builders FirstSource continued to grow through a combination of strategic acquisitions and internal expansion. Between 1998 and the beginning of 2015, we acquired and integrated thirty-three companies. In June 2005, Builders FirstSource completed an initial public offering of its common stock, after which JLL Partners maintained a significant investment in the company.
On July 31, 2015, Builders FirstSource acquired its largest competitor, ProBuild Holdings LLC, creating a more diversified company with enhanced scale and improved geographic footprint. In January 2021, we merged with BMC Stock Holdings, Inc. The combined company is a powerhouse in the building products, prefabricated components, and value-added service industry, serving customers both large and small. With approximately 565 locations in 42 states, a market presence in 85 of the top 100 Metropolitan Statistical Areas, and LTM December 31, 2020 sales of $12.8 billion, the resulting company has significant geographic diversity and a balanced end market exposure.
Builders FirstSource strives to be the preferred supplier of structural building materials and services to homebuilders and remodelers across the nation by giving them both personalized attention at the local level and a wide range of resources only offered by a large company.
Builders FirstSource's goal is to provide outstanding products and services to every customer, regardless of size.
To be the best supplier of building materials and services by having a people-first culture, exceptional customer service, and innovative solutions that create superior value for our stakeholders.
